Snaps by Rach

Rach Cook [she/they] is a family and events photographer based between Leeds and Glasgow, with a passion for snapping candid moments for cool humans (and pets).

As a teenager, Rach attended a photography workshop at their local Youth Centre, where a passion for photography sparked inside them. It was years later when she realised she’d grown up with very few family photos around them, which led them to start freelancing.

Since then, Rachel has been filling their spare time capturing the in-between moments, that their clients can treasure for years to come.

Project Goals

Finally ready to focus on photography and use her talent to create a side income (with the hopes of going full-time in the future), Rach was ready for a website that:

Showcased her work
Attracted ideal clients
Made it easy for people to get in touch

The "before"

Until we started working together Rach had never had a website and instead was using word of mouth, and social media accounts to share their work. She had tried the DIY route but quickly realised this wasn’t her bag, and was taking up too much time that she needed to spend on growing her business.

"I wasn’t sure how I wanted to bring my brand to life, as I was only just starting up my business and trying to find my image. It was a really daunting thing to try and achieve on top of everything and seemed too overwhelming to do on my own."

Project Highlights

Grown confidence in their marketing.

No more avoiding handing out business cards or messaging people she’d like to work with. With a custom website of her own, Rach is feeling way more confident when it comes to marketing her business.

Streamlined enquiries.

By building a form into her Webflow site, Rach get’s instant notifications when someone gets in touch with her. This creates extra opportunities to connect with clients who don’t use the same social platforms as she does.

Brand identity

Rach is such a calm, relaxed but funny person and it was important to capture that in her site. Visitors to snapsbyrach.co.uk should feel welcomed, relaxed and confident when moving through her site, and learning a bit more about them.

Website confidence

Since sending me a bunch of photos for her site at the beginning of this project, Rach has had another few gigs that they’re excited to share! So when the site went Live and I showed them how to make small changes, she dove right into their Webflow project and add new photos to the website.

Colours & Fonts

I chose a neutral and calming colour palette to reflect Rachels easy going and peaceful manner. She wanted the site to be welcoming and informative, and a space where her photos could shine.

Knowing Rachel personally, I wasn’t surprised she wanted to go for a combination of off-whites, linen and tan as she’s not someone to shout and draw attention to herself, but would rather let her work take centre stage. Due to the use of pale neutrals it was also important to keep a strong black for high contrast in fonts.

As always, it was important to me that visitors get an understanding of Rach as a person from the minute they land to the website. To create a relaxed, elegant look that matches Rachels easy-going attitude, I used Just Lovely for headings and Montserrat for body text.

Just Lovely

Yeah, it's like a cow's opinion. It just doesn't matter. It's moo.

Logo

The primary logo is a minimalistic camera image, drawn from Rachel non-fussy style and personality.

The secondary logo brings in one of Rach’s brand colours for a filled background option.

For the brand mark, sticking with the minimalist camera I removed the text and added some fun splash marks of colour to make the site easy to identify when users have multiple tabs open.

Stock Photography

Working with photographers means that so much time is saved looking for decent stock photos that fit in with a brand. Rach sent me a bunch of her best work so we could make sure her site was filled with her beautiful work, giving visitors a strong feel for her style.

Copywriting

At the beginning of working together, I spoke with Rachel about her business, and the directions she wanted to go in with regards to types of photography and the message she wanted to deliver.

It was clear from the get-go that Rach is super passionate about working with people looking for candid and relaxed photoshoots. She loves to capture those in-between moments that we forget, and often aren’t captured in photos because whenever we have a camera pointed at us, the natural reaction is to face the camera and smile.

Using my handy copy-writing guide, Rachel took the time to answer the questions I needed to form her site. Questions like why she decided to pursue photography. Who did she want to work with? What are her brand values?

By getting to know these details, I was able to craft their answers into strategic website copy so that visitors to Snaps by Rach gained not only and understanding of the services and photography packages on offer, but of Rach as a person.

The website

Bringing together the colours, fonts, photos, logo and copy I created a website the Rach is proud to share with the world wide web, which shares their work and invites potential clients to get to know them - and get in touch.

The completed website is made up of 3 main elements:

Portfolio: a dedicated page showing Rachels client work and categories of that work from weddings to branding shoots
Packages: a page showing initial costs, allows visitors to get an idea of price so that when they contact Rach, they’re confident the service is within budget.
Reviews: it’s important to Rach and myself that she be able to show up 100% as themself. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community we never wanted to shy away from that - or from the fact she loves hampster and dinosaurs! People buy from people, and it was a joy to be able to craft a site that allows visitors to get to know Rach on a personal level.

Client Review

“I was worried that it wouldn’t feel like me in a way. I pride myself in being a pretty easy going person when it comes to my work and wasn’t convinced that someone else could make a website that looked and felt like it represented me and my work in an honest way.

I loved working with you because you were open to my ideas and really listened to how I wanted to portray myself and my work to my clients. After working with you on ideas and having check-ins you showed a true passion in what you do and that made me trust you wholly to deliver my website.

You turned a dream of mine into reality and I couldn’t be more chuffed with the service you gave and the end website.”
